Windy Day

We spent most of the day around the campsite today.  It was very windy here.  For dinner we went over to visit with John and Kim.  Paul brought the BBQ and cooked chicken.

Mountain Pictures - another flat tire - Wildlife

Here is what was left of our tire.  We check the tires at every stop so we must have picked up a nail along the way.  So that is 2 blowouts, 8 new tires and one flat fixed in the last year.

Here are some pictures taken at the top of Whistler's Mountain.

Jasper with the mountains in the background.
Kathie took this one of me with the townsite of Jasper below me.

Looking south west.

And here we are with Mt Robson in the distance behind us.

I had Kody out for a walk Sunday morning in the campground at Jasper.  The signs said that the elk were really protective because it was calving season and we were not to approach the elk (duh).  In addition there is a grizzly around looking to make one of the calves his dinner.  So Kody and I were walking and we saw a female elk (elkette?).  We turned around and walked away from her and she followed us and even trotted to close the distance between us.  We walked faster and made a beeline for the trailer.  The elk stopped about 50 yards from the trailer to graze.  Maybe she wanted to play with Kody because Kody wanted to play with her.

The bears we saw east of Prince George were brown black bears.  There were a number of them.  I had not seen brown black bears before.

Jasper in the sunshine

On the way to Jasper yesterday, we could see Mt. Robson in the clouds.  We pulled over to take a picture anyway, and Paul discovered we had a flat tire on the trailer.  The back left was really flat - and gone - only edge pieces around the rim were left.  So the stop became much longer than planned as Paul and James changed the tire and I walked Kody back and forth.

The weather was nice in Jasper when we arrived and we stayed in Whistler's campground.  We got here just in time.  Forgot it was the weekend and watched a very long line of campers and motorhomes pull in just after us.

Today we woke up to sunshine and blue sky.  We took the tram up Whistler's mountain and then hiked further up to the top.  Lots of snow still around.  The haven't yet dug out the whole of the boardwalk.  The hike up was tough.  But the views were worth it.  Down was difficult because the path was very steep in places.

Paul took some great pics and will post some once he has processed them.

We spent a little bit of time in Jasper, but spent most of the rest of the day just enjoying the weather (it usually rains when we are here, so it was that much the better because of the contrast).

Mountains and Snow

We have been in the mountains for the last week and I have got some great pictures.  The one above is our trailer at the campsite in Telkwa with Hudson Bay Mountain in the background.  If you look closely you can see the ski runs.
I was taking pictures of the mountains from Kitwanga Elementary School and these people climbed on the monkey bars at the school and got in the way.

Actually it was the wedding of our niece Nicole and Joe.  Pictures were taken in the playground at the school because that is where they met.  Everyone had a good time.

Immature Bald Eagle

Seven Sisters without the wedding party
The bald eagle was just hanging around and the Seven Sisters is a group of mountains that you can see from the Kitwanga area.

I spent a few days bashing around the bush with Barry in his new Kabota 4 wheeler looking for wildlife.  I had a great time, maybe next time we will see that moose that keeps eluding us.

We are now on our way east.  Prince George tonight - further east tomorrow.

Smithers

We were sad to leave Kitwanga this morning. We had a great time visiting. Although Paul is pretty sure that today Barry will get to see all the wildlife that was hiding whenever they were out. We didn't travel very far today. Just to Smithers to make time to visit with friends. Blogger is having issues with uploads today, so we will post some pics tomorrow.

Kitwanga for the wedding

We are in Kitwanga for a couple of days to have some visit with family and have fun at Nicky and Joe's wedding. Looking forward to it. It is quite cold and in fact some places around here are getting snow in the forecast. I hope not, my shoes for the wedding are open-toed.

Telkwa, Smithers and Terrace

We arrived in Telkwa last night.  During our drive, Kim and I were texting and figured out that they weren't far behind us.  So we waited for them in Vanderhoof and had lunch together.  That was an excellent bonus in the drive.

Last night we visited with old friends and this morning are planning on visiting some more before we head to Terrace to stay with Carl for a couple of days and have more visits with family.

Well known roads

We have travelled these roads many times. No surprises today. We left Chilliwack this morning and drove to Quesnel. This is just an overnight stop. Tomorrow we head to Smithers to visit with friends.

On The Road Again

"On the road again Daddy's singing like a toad again" To quote our eldest child, when ever we hit the road I would sing the first line and she would take over and sing the rest. We must thank David Hahn and the BC Liberals for raising the ferry rates to the point where no one wants to pay the price. At the end of our last leg we pulled up to the ferries on a Friday evening at 5:55 and we were on the 6:00 and the ferry was not full. They had me park at the back of the ferry because they needed the weight at the back of the boat. Of course this all comes at a price - we are now paying 2.5 times what we used to a little more than 10 years ago and 10 times what it costs to get on and off PEI for a similar lenght ferry trip. Today we got to the ferry at noon and at that point the 1:00 was only 40% full. We had a great drive down the freeway to Chilliwack with Mt Baker to the south and the coast mountains and their snow covered peaks to the north and east. Our stay here will be short as we are off to the interior tomorrow.

Getting packed

We start our final loop tomorrow, so we are getting packed today.  Just thought I'd post the map as it looks so far.
